James Bond Meets the Muppets

In 1980, Roger Moore guest starred on The Muppet Show, where he was romanced by Miss Piggy, stepped in a pie ("Do you use Pies on this show?" "Spies?" "No, Pies... I just stepped in one.") And still looked so suave Kermit says he never would have noticed it if he hadn't mentioned it. In the finale, Moore 'sang' "Talk to the Animals" while deftly dispatching muppet spies who are trying to kill James Bond. [More]

Roger Moore - Where Does Love Go?

19. February 2014 15:18 by m | 0 Comments

In 1965 Roger Moore and Luisa Mattioli released a single. The 'A' Side, Where Does Love Go was a cover of an old Charles Boyer number, while the B side was an original composition written by Roger & Luisa. Roger doesn't sing, it's more like he's reading a poem. When asked by the Daily Mail in November of that year why he's not singing, Mr Moore replied" 'I didn't want to inflict that on the public.' Perhaps not surprisingly, the record wasn't a smash hit, but when I stumbled across a copy I just had to share it. [More]

GOODBYE, MR. BOND

31. January 2014 10:53 by m | 0 Comments

This article, from 2010, discusses how financial troubles for the motion picture studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) could jeopardize the continuation of the James Bond motion picture franchise. The author comments on the inability of MGM to find a buyer to purchase the studio, resulting in speculation that the production of a James Bond film to be written by screenwriter Peter Morgan and possibly to be directed by filmmaker Sam Mendes had been canceled despite the success of "Casino RoyaleCasino Royale" and "Quantum of SolaceQuantum of Solace," the two previous films in the series. He suggests that if MGM is separated into portions, production on James Bond films could be delayed due to legal issues. He discusses the relationship between MGM and Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of the Bond films. [More]

The Private Bond

This summer will mark the 25th anniversary of Licence To KillLicence To Kill. This vintage interview with Timothy Dalton explores Dalton's decision to make 007 darker in Licence To KillLicence To Kill - a risk which proved unpopular at the time, but which worked well when Daniel Craig tried it many years later. Dalton justifies the risk with an excellent point: "it would be boring to be the same all the time, to have the same story. I don’t wish to abuse the word, but there is a.. .formula, which has to do with Bond versus the villain, with good vs. evil also in Bond himself. That’s all formula, but within it, there’s scope for variety and the more the better." Pay attention 007 screenwriters! [More]

35mm Moonraker Trailer

16. January 2014 06:15 by m | 0 Comments

This trailer was captured from one of the actual 35mm film reels that was sent to cinemas around the world in late 1978/early 1979 to promote the film. The color has been restored, but the dirt and scratches have not been cleaned up yet. Personally I quite like the grungy, 'film' look - you can almost hear the projector... [More]
