Which actor portrays the best James Bond?

7. May 2014 06:21 by m | 0 Comments

The April 2014 issue of American Spectator presented two essays about the onscreen portrayal of James Bond 007. The first essay makes quite a convincing argument for Daniel Craig, while the second argues for both Sean Connery and Roger Moore. Sadly, George Lazenby doesn't even get a mention in either one. The Private Bond

20. January 2014 05:59 by m | 0 Comments

This summer will mark the 25th anniversary of Licence To KillLicence To Kill. This vintage interview with Timothy Dalton explores Dalton's decision to make 007 darker in Licence To KillLicence To Kill - a risk which proved unpopular at the time, but which worked well when Daniel Craig tried it many years later. Dalton justifies the risk with an excellent point: "it would be boring to be the same all the time, to have the same story. I don’t wish to abuse the word, but there is a.. .formula, which has to do with Bond versus the villain, with good vs. evil also in Bond himself. That’s all formula, but within it, there’s scope for variety and the more the better." Pay attention 007 screenwriters! [More]

Siskel & Ebert Review The Living Daylights

30. August 2013 05:39 by m | 0 Comments

The Living DaylightsThe Living Daylights was one of my favorite Bond films, arriving shortly before my 13th Birthday. For me it had all the elements from the best James Bond movies: A gadget laden Aston Martin, plenty of action, a beautiful Bond Girl and a plot that was easy to follow and actually made sense (compare to The World Is Not EnoughThe World Is Not Enough).

However, Siskel & Ebert were not so easily impressed... [More]

Licence To Play - The History of James Bond 007 Video Games

12. August 2013 16:01 by m | 0 Comments

In this feature-length documentary by James Bond fan Benjamin Lind, we are taken on a journey that spans 30 years - from the humble Atari James Bond Games of the early 1980s to the 2012 version of GoldeneyeGoldeneye. Lind takes us inside each game, allowing us to see what it is like to play each one, describing the good and bad parts of each game and when possible takes us behind the scenes using promotional materials including videos and TV spots. With each passing year, the graphics and game engines improve, but not all of the games get better... [More]

Siskel & Ebert Review License to Kill

24. July 2013 04:59 by m | 0 Comments

Gene Siskel felt that Licence To KillLicence To Kill was very "uneven", ranging from "quite exciting to tedius", and that it has a sort of "dirty, unfinished look" that he can't quite explain. Unable to enthusiastically recommend the film, he somewhat reluctantly gives it a thumbs down, while Roger Ebert gives it thumbs up. I think this rather mixed review is spot on, and it's hard to disagree with either of them. [More]

The making of The Living Daylights

9. June 2013 06:45 by m | 0 Comments

Did you know the original screenplay of Bond XV was an origin story featuring a very young and unruly Bond who was in danger of being kicked out of the Navy, but brought into SIS and mentored by an aging 007? Or that the parrot seen briefly in the safe house kitchen scene used to belong to Bond girl Diana Rigg and was the same bird seen in For Your Eyes OnlyFor Your Eyes Only? Or that the on screen composer at the end of the movie is none other than Maestro John Barry himself, who at the end of the scene takes a bow for the scene, the film and the series? [More]
